As one of the world's premier digital entertainment and gaming expos, ChinaJoy 2026 brought together global gamers, publishers, and mobile marketing leaders in Shanghai from July 31 to August 2. As a key rewarded channel for Chinese game advertisers, Mistplay was sure to show up in style with a themed booth, keynote session, an exclusive report launch, and VIP networking party.

Here’s what Mistplay got up to at ChinaJoy 2026, key moments from the event, and industry trends and insights gathered from the show floor.

ChinaJoy 2026 highlights

ChinaJoy has established itself as one of the world's largest gaming conventions and a flagship stage showcasing trends in game development, ad tech, and global expansion. This year's event demonstrated immense international reach and industry influence: over the four-day event, more than 900 companies from 35 countries and regions gathered across a 140,000+ square-meter exhibition space, attracting 438,900 total visits – a 6.97% year-over-year increase, with young adults aged 18-29 accounting for 65% of the crowd.

In the B2B area, international companies made up 44% of exhibitors, drawing over 44,000 trade visitors – 21% of whom were international attendees – underscoring a strong demand for cross-border collaboration. The massive turnout and highly professional audience highlighted not only the strong recovery of the global gaming market, but also publishers' urgent need for high-efficiency, high-quality traffic, and precise user acquisition (UA) models.

Launching the Japan Mobile Gaming & Rewarded Market Report

At the ChinaJoy roadshow area, Chaonan Peng, Mistplay’s Sales Lead in China, delivered a keynote speech unveiling key insights from our newly published Japan Gaming & Rewarded Market Report, dissecting the latest shifts in Japan's rewarded ad landscape.

Following the presentation, Yushan Li, Head of Client Management in China, moderated an expert panel featuring leaders from Fancy Studio, Adjust, and SocialPeta, drawing over 100 trade professionals who listened intently.

Growth in Groove: The ultimate chill after-party

On the night of July 31, Mistplay co-hosted the "Growth in Groove" party alongside AppGrowing, Yeahmobi, and Youdao Ads at KZ Livehouse. Designed as a relaxed, "chill" gathering centered around casual yet meaningful networking, the event brought together 350+ mobile gaming executives and decision-makers to share insights and spark new partnerships over music and drinks.

Three key trends shaping the future from ChinaJoy 2026

1. Monetization restructuring: Third-party payments & webshops are driving a profit margin revolution

With Apple and Google opening up policies around alternative payment systems, collecting payments directly via official Webshops has become a standard strategy for global publishers. Bypassing traditional app store commission fees turns saved costs directly into pure profit, elevating the battlefield from brutal UA competition to margin-driven growth.

This trend was directly reflected in the ChinaJoy B2B hall, where a high concentration of global payment providers and cross-border acquiring institutions showcased their solutions, making it one of the most popular sectors on the floor. To capitalize on this wave, publishers must build robust global acquiring and compliance infrastructure – covering risk management, seamless fund settlement, and localized payment methods. In this new paradigm, payment solutions have evolved from a back-office utility into a core engine directly driving revenue and conversion.

2. Two-way globalization: National pavilions & city-wide networking heat up

Cross-border matchmaking reached new heights this year, reflecting not only the momentum of Chinese games going global, but also a reciprocal trend of global resources flowing into China:

  • National and regional pavilions: Delegation groups from South Korea (SBA, GCA), Spain (ICEX), Russia, Poland, and Hong Kong established a strong presence at this year’s event. Major overseas expos like Taipei Game Show and Brasil Game Show also engaged local teams on-site, alongside enthusiastic participation from Southeast Asian and emerging market developers.
  • Ecosystem integration: Tech giants Google and Meta hosted closed-door summits, while top global media outlets like Pocket Gamer and GamingonPhone organized developer events, bridging international developer communities.
  • City-wide spillover effect: Side events extended across Shanghai, with both event count and duration increasing notably compared to previous years – underscoring a strong appetite among global executives for multi-scenario, high-efficiency networking.

3. AI & frontier tech integration: From on-site exoskeletons to core infrastructure

On the ChinaJoy floor, cutting-edge technology was an immediate, hands-on experience: attendees wore mobility exoskeletons to effortlessly navigate tens of thousands of daily steps, while cross-border professionals used AI real-time translation devices for frictionless business conversations. These futuristic, practical details captured widespread attention as vivid microcosms of tech and AI merging into the gaming ecosystem.

However, exoskeletons and translation tools were just the tip of the iceberg. Under the overarching theme "Journey with AI," AI transcended its status as an isolated concept to permeate every conference track—including the newly added CDEC AI Future Ecosystem Conference, main forums, digital entertainment consumption summits, and CGDC developer sessions. AI's role is rapidly evolving from an eye-catching event gimmick or simple dev tool into a fundamental engine driving game development, low-latency localization, dynamic NPC interactions, LiveOps, and precision UA.
