Privacy Sandbox was Google’s multi-year initiative designed to replace cross-site tracking tools like GAID (Google Advertising ID) and third-party cookies with privacy-preserving APIs.
However, following widespread industry pushback, mixed performance testing, and regulatory challenges, Google officially retired the Privacy Sandbox program in October 2025. GAID remains operational on Android, and traditional identifiers remain reliant on user consent settings and platform rules rather than Google's proposed sandbox framework.
